Pumpkin Pie Dog Treat Recipe

Pumpkin pie dog treats are a fun and festive treat for your dog to enjoy this holiday season.

Pumpkin pie is one of my favorite desserts for the holidays. It’s easy to make, vegan friendly, and I love the sweet and savory combination with a nice dollop of coconut whipped cream on top. Coincidentally, this fall favorite dessert can be made dog friendly with just a few tweaks. This pumpkin pie dog treat recipe is so easy and such a fun and festive treat to make for your dog. It is high in prebiotic fiber and loaded with vitamins and minerals like Vitamin A, Vitamin C, Potassium, Copper, Manganese, Vitamin B2, Vitamin E, and Iron.

One thing I love about this dog treat recipe is that it is practically foolproof. It also uses simple ingredients that you likely already have on hand for holiday baking, so no extra trips to the store required. Ingredients for Pumpkin Pie Dog Treats

As always, I carefully review each ingredient I include in my recipes to ensure they are, at a minimum, safe and nontoxic for dogs. I also strive to select ingredients that are not just safe, but even healthy for dogs! While all treats and special foods should be fed in moderation (even the healthy ones!), it’s nice to know that the treats you are giving your pup are enriching their lives nutritionally, as well as emotionally.

Pumpkin is, of course, the star in this pumpkin pie dog treat recipe, but it’s not the only healthy thing in this holiday dog treat recipe! Blackstrap molasses contains Vitamin-B6, Copper, Iron, Calcium, Potassium, Magnesium, Manganese, and Selenium. Just be sure the kind you pick up does NOT contain xylitol or other chemicals. Don’t have any Blackstrap Molasses, or just want to lower the calorie count? Skip it altogether!

Finally, the spices. Cinnamon is an anti-inflammatory, which makes it great for helping manage joint pain and reduce swelling. It can also help improve cognitive function, regulate blood sugar, and lower insulin resistance. Ginger is also an anti-inflammatory and can help with blood circulation and gastrointestinal problems like gas/bloating.

As a note, this recipe is grain free, corn free, and soy free, and it can be made dairy-free if needed, too! Be sure to pin this recipe for future use, and let me know what you think in the comments!

Pumpkin Pie Dog Treat Recipe

This pumpkin pie dog treat recipe is so easy to make, it's practically fool proof. Bake these for a fun and festive dog treat this holiday season.
Prep Time 5 minutes
Cook Time 15 minutes
Assembly Time 5 minutes
Total Time 25 minutes
Servings 8 Mini Pies

Equipment

  • Muffin pan (regular or mini)

Ingredients

  • 2 Cups Oat flour (Pulse rolled oats in a blender or food processor until you create a flour-like consistency.)
  • 1/2 cup Plain, unsweetened applesauce
  • 2 tsp coconut oil, melted
  • 15 oz Pumpkin Puree, plain and unsweetened (one can)
  • 1/2 tbsp Blackstrap Molasses
  • 1/2 tsp Cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp Ground ginger
  • 8 oz Plain, unsweetened Greek Yogurt to top (Optional)

Instructions

  • Preheat your oven to 350 degrees F.
  • Mix the oat flour, applesauce, and coconut oil together until a nice dough ball forms. You might need to use your hands to get it to all stick together. If the dough is too crumbly, add a little water. NOTE: the dough will be tough. This is fine.
  • Divide the dough into equal sized pieces and roll into a ball. Press each ball into the well of a muffin pan to create your crust. Use your fingers and thumb to press into the corners so that you create a small bowl shape. NOTE: The crusts don't need to be thick, but make sure they hold together. They also don't need to go all the way up the muffin well. Think of a tart crust!
  • Bake for 10-15 minutes, or until crusts are firm and just starting to brown. Remove from oven and let cool fully.
  • Meanwhile, combine pumpkin puree, molasses, cinnamon, and ginger until thoroughly mixed.
  • Once the crusts have cooled, carefully remove them from the muffin pan and divide the pumpkin filling among them. If you have leftover filling, you can stuff a toy like a classic kong and freeze for another holiday treat!
  • Top each pie with a small dollop of yogurt (or fresh whipped cream for an extra special treat) and serve!

Storage

  • These will keep for about 1 week in your fridge, or up to a couple of months in the freezer! You can serve as a frozen treat, or thaw fully. Don't top with yogurt until you are ready to serve.
